New Arenas Complete at the British Showjumping National Training Centre
Whilst many challenges were thrown our way during 2020, we still succeeded in completing a number of large-scale installation and construction projects, one of which involved a team of ten Equestrian Surfaces employees getting everything up and running at the British Showjumping National Training Centre in Hothorpe.
Having received a commission to construct two new all-weather riding arenas back in September 2019, we set straight to work and began excavating the site in preparation for the installation of the Ebb & Flow drainage systems.
Delayed slightly by adverse weather conditions over the Christmas period of 2019 and into the early months of 2020, works later resumed in April of 2020, and the Equestrian Surfaces team returned to finish what we had started!
With the Ebb & Flow automatic irrigation systems installed, and the two new outdoor arenas successfully built, surfaced and completed, our teams then turned to resurfacing the remaining indoor and outdoor arenas on site, which included:
- Two 80m x 60m outdoor arenas, both surfaced with our Wax Track surface
- One 50m x 30 outdoor arena, surfaced with our Sound Track surface
- One 60m x 40m indoor arena, also surfaced with Sound Track
We’re delighted to announce that our works are now complete!
Here’s a quick summary of what was involved in the project for us:
12 months spent on site, overcoming floods, droughts, and a global pandemic!
11 thousand sq. metres of Sand & Fibre surface installed on Ebb & Flow arenas
10 Equestrian Surfaces employees working round the clock to make it all happen
9 miles from the M1 motorway, the NTC offers 120 acres of outstanding equestrian facilities and residential accommodation on site
8 arena display boards on site to promote our work
7 solid hours straight spent behind the wheel of a roller (well done to ES team member, Holly!)
6 arenas on site, all surfaced with Equestrian Surfaces products
5 hours of raking completed by Alex to finish the job off
4 thousand tonnes of silica sand shipped in from Bathgate, and a further 2,800 tonnes from Mansfield, installed on the Ebb & Flow arenas
3 Equestrian Olympic teams due to train and quarantine on site in preparation for Tokyo 2021
2 Trackmaster graders provided, which will be used by the NTC team to maintain the surfaces
1 Huge effort from all at Equestrian Surfaces and DC Groundworks!
As we move closer to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, we’re excited to hear from riders who will be training on our surfaces at the BSJ NTC. Check back for further updates!
