Recent Projects (July – October)

Our teams have been hard at work travelling up and down the country to supply, install and maintain surfaces on a range of indoor and outdoor arenas. In the last few months, we’ve seen particularly high demand from a number of our racing clients, and we’ve made several trips up to the Highlands! 

Here are just a few of the projects we’ve been busy with…

 

Racing

Warren Greatrex Racing – supply, installation, maintenance

We were pleased to supply a 1.8m Trackmaster grader to be used on the 432 tonnes of Cushion Track Classic recently laid at Warren Greatrex’s new 60m x 30m outdoor arena. 

Warren is an accomplished National Hunt trainer who has recently moved to Rhonehurst this summer and is looking forward to a great session at his new facility. 

The new surface is a fantastic addition to the already superb on-site facilities, and will accommodate the daily schooling of approximately 60 racehorses. 

Daragh Bourke Racing, Lockerbie – construction, supply, installation

Our team headed up to Lockerbie along with our construction partners, D&C Groundtec, to undertake the construction and installation of a new 5-furlong (1,000m) x 3m all-weather gallop, complete with two turning circles, for Daragh Bourke Racing. 

Once the ground had been stripped, and the drainage and stone installed, the project was finished off with 850 tonnes of our Wax Track+ surface, compacted to a depth of 6 inches. 

Charlie Longsdon Racing – maintenance, refurbishment

After assessing the existing surface in place at Charlie Longsdon’s facility, we proceeded to carry out some remedial works to bring the surface back to top condition. 

Our team, along with a team from GHF Contracting, turned the original surface over, right down to the membrane to break up the compacted bottom layer, and then re-laid the surface, blending in some of our fibre to keep a nice open mix and prevent it from riding too fast. 

Newmarket Pony Academy, British Racing School – supply, installation

The Newmarket Pony Academy, at the British Racing School, is a new community project which invites children to interact with horses in order to positively affect mental health and wellbeing. 

We’re proud to support such a great initiative, and we were pleased to install our Cushion Track Classic on their indoor and outdoor arenas. 

Hill Top Equestrian, Kevin Frost Racing – supply, installation

We were commissioned to provide the surface for 3.5 furlongs of the mile-long gallop at Hill Top Equestrian for Kevin Frost Racing. Since our Cushion Track Premier has been installed, we’ve been receiving some excellent feedback from riders! 

Olly Murphy Racing – construction, supply, installation

Our teams have been working hard on two substantial projects for renowned racehorse trainer, Olly Murphy. In addition to the 432 tonnes of Cushion Track Classic installed on his 60m x 30m outdoor arena, we also laid the stone base for his 250m schooling strip, finishing it off with our Wax Track+ surface. 

 

Scotland

Aberdeen – maintenance, refurbishment

Our own Surface Maintenance Engineer, Sam, teamed up with Stuart from Strandring Building Contractors to complete remedial works on three arenas for an equestrian facility up in Aberdeen. 

The surfaces on both indoor arenas were turned over and re-levelled, before being compacted and commissioned for us, and the outdoor arena was turned over and re-levelled before being topped up with 75mm of our Sound Track surface. 

Perth – construction, supply, installation

We spent several weeks up in Perth, working alongside Anthony Shearn to complete an extension for an existing outdoor arena, increasing the space from 50m x 30m up to 70m x 50m. Once the extension had been constructed, the arena was surfaced with 700 tonnes of our Wax Track surface. 

Aboyne – HorseBack UK – maintenance, refurbishment

HorseBack UK is a charity which uses horsemanship to inspire recovery, boost self-esteem and provide a sense of purpose and community to wounded and injured veterans of the Armed Forces through their nationally accredited personal development programmes. 

We were proud to be involved with improving the surfaces on their indoor and outdoor arenas, as well as the lunge pen and corral, at their site in Aboyne. Our teams topped up their 38m x 33m outdoor arena with 25mm of our sand and synthetic fibres, re-levelled the lunge pen and topped it up with Sound Track, and re-levelled the corral, topping it up with sand and fibre. 

The indoor 40m x 20m arena was badly damaged by a storm that took place a few years ago. In an effort to bring the arena back to life, we repaired the boarding around the perimeter, and removed some of the existing surface to replace it with 75mm of our Sound Track surface.
