The people behind it all
Thomas Harper
Sales Director
With Equestrian Surfaces Ltd
20 Years
I enjoy seeing how happy our customers are when a project is complete and they know they’ve made a great investment for themselves and their horse.
“I joined the family business on a part-time basis when I left school. The job saw me through my studies at college, and I continued to work during holiday periods when I was studying for my law degree at the University of Leeds. When I got my degree, I took on a full-time position in the production yard and learned the techniques involved in manufacturing our surfaces, including details about proportions in all the different blends.
“I began assisting the installation teams and helping to complete arena constructions for clients across the UK. From there, I moved onto working in accounts, then sales and general administration, before becoming Transport Manager for the company’s fleet of HGVs for a number of years. I returned to a sales role when I took up the position that Paul Harper occupied at the time, and I’ve been in this position ever since. Now, I travel a lot both in the UK and abroad, promoting Equestrian Surfaces, spreading the word, meeting clients and selling our surfaces!
“The best thing about my job is that it’s so varied; both the work itself and the people that you meet doing it. I enjoy seeing how happy our customers are when a project is complete and they know they’ve made a great investment for themselves and their horse.
“Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family – my wife and 2 children, and our two dogs. We all enjoy walking the dogs together and escaping for some quality time as a family on a UK holiday. I also like to spend time around the yard with the horses, and play golf competitively to a handicap of 1.”
