Top 7 Horsey Films to Watch During the Lockdown
The situation we’re currently living in is unlike anything many of us have seen in our lifetime, with stricter measures being put into place by the UK Government than there have been with any other pandemic in the last 50 years.
With the lockdown now in place and many businesses closing their doors, adapting their processes to allow employees to work from home, operating with restricted services, or temporarily ceasing operations altogether, it’s quite easy to become overwhelmed and anxious in these troubling times.
Whilst the team at Equestrian Surface are doing everything we can to ensure our services remain available, and our facilities operational, we’d also like to inject a little bit of positivity and lift away some of those self-isolation blues.
Here’s a list of our Top 7 Horsey Films to Watch During the Lockdown (one for each day of the week). We hope you enjoy!
Ride Like a Girl (2019)
Ride Like a Girl tells the inspirational story of Michelle Payne – the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, despite facing 100-1 odds.
Secretariat is an American biographical sports drama film which is focussed on the efforts of one woman, Penny Chenery, navigating her way through the male-dominated world of racing after inheriting her family’s Thoroughbred farm and fostering a gifted colt.
Set in the Great Depression, Seabiscuit is a classic tale depicting the triumph of the underdog. Loosely based on the life and career of the (real) Thoroughbred racehorse by the same name, Seabiscuit is one of the most famous horsey films out there – a definite must-watch!
War Horse (2011)
War Horse was one of the most raved about films of 2011. Winning several awards for its breath-taking cinematography, the film sold out box offices and filled cinema seats for weeks after its release. Set in the heart of the British countryside during World War I, this adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 novel is another epic production from Steven Spielberg.
Based in Wyoming, USA, Flicka tells the tale of a teenager with big dreams to take over her father’s ranch. A great teen film/coming-of-age story for all the family to enjoy!
The Horse Whisperer (1998)
Based on Nicholas Evans’ 1995 novel of the same title, The Horse Whisperer is an American drama directed by and starring Robert Redford. It’s got horses, it’s got emotional twists and turns. You’ll love it!
There are rifts in the family dynamic, and adopting a horse is the only way to fix them! Starring a young Dakota Fanning, alongside Kurt Russell and Kris Kristofferson, Dreamer was rated highly for the quality of the actors’ performances, and was nominated as the Best Family Film (Live Action) in the Critics’ Choice Awards of 2006.
