Concept, Design and Construction of bespoke turnout pens for International Showjumpers

Martin Wood’s fantastic yard in Harrogate, houses his daughter and son in law Michaela and George Whitaker.

Together with Equestrian Surfaces, George and Martin discussed their need for having multiple turn out pens that could be used all year round that are suitable for international show jumpers and stallions.

The idea of creating a high fencing system along with dear gates ensured there was no risk of the horses jumping out and also preventing the stallions from getting to the horses on the opposite side.

A surfaced walkway was created ensuring easy access all year round, and allowing sufficient width for a tractor and grader to provide maintenance, and ensure the safety of the horses when walking to each pen.

From initial ideas and concept design, through to the full construction by Roebuck Equestrian, 11 exceptional turn out pens were created. The clients chose Economy Track for their project, being a great surface for turn out pens, the fibre allows for more stability than regular sand whilst also being cost effective and allowing for feeding without any contamination to the surface.
