The people behind it all

“I started working with Equestrian Surfaces when I was still in secondary school. I initially worked for a few days, sieving through the surfaces, and after that I took up work on the weekends and in the school holidays in the production yard. I did this for around three years, and when I left school I took on a full-time position straight away. My first role here was in the office, although I decided office life wasn’t really for me, so I returned to the yard as soon as I could.
“Once back in the yard, I passed my HGV test and began delivering surfaces, plant machinery and bales to customers across the UK. I did this for around 18 months, and then returned to the yard and took over the operations for the mixing. I also began to get more involved with the haulage side of things, and grew from speaking to one or two haulage companies to maintaining a vast list of hauliers which operate throughout the UK.
“I’ve worked on sites across the UK, and I’ve been abroad mixing surfaces for racetracks. What I enjoy most about my job is the fact that no two days are the same – every day brings different challenges. I also enjoy building a rapport with customers and knowing that their requirements have been fulfilled and they’re happy with the work we do for them. It’s great to be able to guide a customer through each stage of the process and see their arena brought to life, and how happy that makes them. I’d also have to say one of the best things about my job is driving a telehandler – I used to play with toy diggers as a child and now I drive them on a daily basis, which is great!
“Outside of work, I like to go to the gym and visit my friends and family. On weekends, I like to take my dog on long walks before enjoying a few well-earned beers!”
